After three successful annual Summits in India (Goa) and Europe (Valladolid, Spain), the EuroIndia Centre will hold its fourth Summit in Halle (Saale) in the State of Saxe-Anhalt, close to Leipzig, on 10-12 October 2010.
Top leaders of Indian and European Cities, their local stakeholders, companies, academic and research institutions, professionals, NGO’s and their parent Regions/States are cordially invited:
1. To get first-hand exposure to the best European/Indian sustainable urban practices, through expert discussions and field visits, with a special focus on Environmental Sustainability and Green Energy.
2. To interact with the most innovative Indian/European Cities and Regions/States and the keenest to enter into co-operative partnerships in the areas of nowledge management, nvestments and business, ourism and xcellence in urban governance .
3. To take advantage of individual Business to Civic, Civic to Civic, Business to Business meetings organized on demand.
Before the Summit, Indian participants will be invited to join the official Indian Summit delegation of high-level representatives of federate States and Cities led by a senior representative of the Government of India that is slated to attend Open Days 2010 in Brussels, the largest gathering of European regions, to visit Leuven in Belgium and Paris.
Halle – the most populous city (233,000 inhabitants) in the regional state of Saxony-Anhalt – is situated in one of the oldest industrial regions of Germany.

Halle profits from its location in the heart of the central German conurbation, the proximity to the capital of Germany Berlin (1.5 hours viarail) and the Saxon metropolis Leipzig (12 min via rai), its well-developed connections to Eastern Europe and the innovative potential as a University City and academic centre. Halle is a city where modern spirit and history are balanced. The city centre of Halle is the largest architectural monument in Europe. |
In 2008, under the aegis of the Centre, the City signed a co-operation agreement with the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat to welcome technical interns from the latter. Halle was the first German city to join the Centre as an institutional member.
The Summit will take advantage on the International Building Exhibition (IBA) on Urban Redevelopment organized by the host State of Saxony-Anhalt in Halle.
: The Centre is a not-for-profit association registered in 2001 in La Rochelle (France) and founded by two co-presidents: Dr. Manmohan Singh, current Indian Prime Minister, and late Mr. Raymond Barre, former French Prime Minister. It focuses on bringing Europeans and Indians together again for a shared future and on restoring their historical partnership through concrete and novel initiatives. Its current strategy is a comprehensive Euro-Indian plan to oster inks ielding ssets in nowledge, nvestments, ourism and urban xcellence by extending its current focus on urban management to nowledge, nvestment and ourism, with emphasis on environmental sustainability.

The theme, timing and venue of the Summit have been chosen to coincide with organized by the Summit host State of Saxony- Anhalt, which will reflect that former East-German cities, such as Halle, had to adopt to address daunting social, economic and demographic challenges caused by German reunification. will allow Summit participants to learn from this unique experience.
West European cities had to confront the same challenges in their years of reconstruction and economic boom after the 2nd World War. They are now facing to mitigate the social cost of the current economic slowdown.
Indian cities have been hard put to cope with India’s economic and demographic boom. Launched in 2006 by the Government of India, the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission has reversed the trend. More such initiatives in social housing and environment protection have triggered an urban revolution in India with a quantum spurt in new urban investments and projects across the country. As a result, civic managers are now keen to imbibe the best proven urban practices that European cities can offer.
Though for different compulsions, and rethink their identity, vision and their strategic planning, keeping in mind the pressing new concern of preserving their immediate environment and that of the planet at large.
In its various sessions the Summit will deal with strategic planning, environmental sustainability, safety, housing, built heritage, transportation and and foster that should benefit all cities and their stakeholders.
The will be launched at a special session to reward the two most Innovative European and Indian Cities of the year in Environmental Sustainability and the company, NGO or technical institute that may be associated with the said innovation.
Participants will be offered organized on demand by the Halle Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Each participating City/Region/State therefore is invited to bring a business delegation.
