First Issue, September 2007

Dear Member,

We wish to thank you for your constructive remarks on the trial issue, which we've strived to incorporate in this maiden issue."For members by members" will be the baseline of our content creation henceforth, which calls for your wholehearted contribution.

Let us together build it into a reference document, which not only serves our members, but appeals to a whole spectrum of Euro-India actors and watchers, enable a rich and lively dialogue and helps us builds a common cause for an enhanced Euro-Indian Partnership.

You may also forward e-mail addresses of potential candidates for membership to admin-newsletter@the-euroindia-centre.org and we will be delighted to send them The EuroIndia Letter along with a personalised note.

The second EuroIndia Forum, 3-5 April 2008, in Goa provides you with an ideal opportunity to rally such prospective members who could be interested in taking part in an event that ambitions to kick-start Euro-Indian co-operation in the new urban frontier of resurgent India. The first public announcement of the 2008 Forum is now out on our Website. You can go through the details and circulate it further via the What's New section at the bottom right of this page.

Coming after the resounding success of the first Goa Forum in February this year and the official inauguration of our European headquarters in La Rochelle, this maiden issue of our Newsletter is further proof that the Centre, by its members' grace, is poised for a great future.

It is a sad irony that this is precisely the time when our founding co-President, Mr Raymond Barre left us for his heavenly abode. We owe him everything. Together with Dr Manmohan Singh and a few Indian and European visionary corporate leaders, he brought the Centre into existence, guided its first halting steps to the hilt and provided his moral support and wise guidance for as long as he could. He played his last decisive role in mustering high-level support for The EuroIndia Forum, which alas his failing health prevented him from attending.

May I suggest that we repay our debt to him by simply living up to his visionary challenge to turn our Centre into a unique and successful institution dedicated to the promotion of an enhanced partnership between Indians and Europeans to build a shared future.

Thank you for your your renewed support and faith in our EuroIndia destiny.

Yours sincerely,
Michel Sabatier
Secretary General
