On the 27th of August, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation hosted Secretary General Michel Sabatier to prepare the full-fledged participation of the City in the impending EuroIndia City Summit in Valladolid and its extension to Madrid and Paris.
Under the aegis of the Mayor, Kanaji Thakore, and the Municipal Commissioner, I.P.Gautam, he was asked to address a gathering of the local business community that has been invited by the Valladolid Chamber of Commerce to a B to B meeting organized in the wake of the Summit on the 6t. It helped in creating awareness about potential matching interests between the two cities in order to expand the scope of their agreement signed with Valladolid last year for expertise sharing in the field of heritage conservation and tourism promotion.

It also helped in fund raising to finance a unique gift by the Ahmedabadi citizens of the specially crafted facade of a traditional haveli (house) of the City which will be inaugurated on the eve of the Summit as a token of enduring friendship bonds between the two cities, together with an exhibition on Ahmedabad built heritage, prepared by expert conservationist, Debashish Nayak.
The Secretary General was also made to meet with the media resulting in good media coverage (link to the site) and a group of top municipal corporators of the majority and the opposion under the aegis of the Mayor. Last but not least, he was shown the newly commissioned Rapid Bus Transit System on a main trunk road of the city. |

Ahmedabad pledged to come with a large delegation of senior municipal officials, business people and a few architects and urban designers from the famous CEPT school of Ahmedabad. That will definitely enable Ahmedabad to keep its Indian lead among Indian cities, when it comes to engaging with Europe for mutual benefit. |

In doing so, they are true to the spirit of the K.I.T.E. strategy promoted by the Centre, which consists in expanding civic ties to the areas of Knowledge, Investment and business, Tourism, beyond urban Excellence which is the essence of the three agreements Ahmedabad recently signed with Halle, La Rochelle and Valladolid for expertise sharing in heritage conservation, tourism promotion, energy saving and vocational training.
Together with these cities and a few more expected to rally at the Valladolid Summit, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to set up the first national Heritage Centre to service their own needs and |

that of other Indian cities, while capitalizing on their acquired expertise and that of partner European cities. This institutional project will be one of the key subjects put in the limelight of the next EuroIndia City Summit in Valladolid.
