The 1st ACADEMIC MEETING ON INDIAN STUDIES would take place in Valladolid at the 12th of February 2010, organised by the Embassy of India in Spain, the University of Valladolid and Casa de la India, in cooperation with other entities.

This proposal will also be communicated to the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Casa Asia, Spain-India Foundation etc. in order to find synergies with other academic-institutional initiatives that can contribute their experience, resources and knowledge in order to give this project the impulse and support needed to consolidate is as an annual national event taking place in a different city each year.

The objective of the meeting is to bring together academics, experts, representatives of universities, public and private institutions in Spain that are professionally dedicated to research, teaching, promotion or publication of topics related to Indian Studies (classical and contemporary) in all academic areas (culture, history, languages, economy and business, politics, international relations, religion, society, performing arts, cinema, architecture, visual arts etc.) It would be the first time that these experts, academics and institutions come together on a national level to carry out a common analysis, through plenary sessions and thematic roundtable sessions, of the state of affairs of Indian Studies in Spain. Experts can also develop a common strategy with a series of recommendation and an action plan, as an outcome of the discussion, with the goal of supporting, strengthening and increasing the presence of Indian Studies in Spain. In this way the meeting will also serve as a meeting point for the numerous academics and experts in Spain that would like to get to know each other better, exchange information, experiences and projects, carry out collaboration proposals and establish networks and working groups originating from this annual call.
