V Spanish Film Festival In India

The Spanish Film Festival in India is an event promoted by Casa de la India (House of India) in Spain in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in India, ICAA, the Ministry of Culture, The Spanish Agency for Cooperation and Development, EGEDA, FILMOTECH en the Cervantes Institute in New Delhi. It has been designed to showcase the best in recent Spanish Film and expose the Indian audience, critics, producers and directors and distributors to Spanish Film. Its aim is to become a platform to exchange project ideas and experiences between Indian and Spanish filmmakers.

Precedent


The first Spanish Film festival was held in Delhi in 2006 in association with the Directorate of Film Festivals of India at the Siri Fort and was considered a huge hit with capacity audiences, etc.

In March 2007, supported by the huge success of the first edition, a second festival took place in two different cities: New Delhi and Mumbai. In New Delhi the screenings took place in the prestigious Habitat Centre and in Mumbai the festival was held in association with the 9th International Film Festival, Mumbai (IFFM).

The Spanish Film Festival 2008 entered its third year and got bigger with the addition of Trivandrum as an additional city in its circuit.

The festival took place between 6th and 15th March, and it received good reviews and ran to packed halls in Mumbai and Trivandrum.

In 2009 the fourth edition of the film festival took place between the 16th and the 22nd of March in Hyderabad and New Delhi. As in former editions the festival opened in New Delhi and moved afterwards to another city in India, with the objective to promote Spanish cinema in new cities every year. In New Delhi a special event was organised as well the 17th of March in cooperation with the Cervantes Institute in India. It consisted of a roundtable with directors and producers from India together with the Spanish delegation.

2010 Edition


The IV Spanish Film Festival in India will include twelve Spanish recent films. As in precious editions a delegation of directors and actor will travel to India to introduce the films and take part in different events promoting Spanish Cinema in India. Casa de la India wants to make Spanish Cinema closer to audience in India, a country were cinema is an essential part of everyday life and shows a great interest on foreign cinema.

This year the festival will take place in the cities of Chennai and New Delhi, from 16th to 21st of March. We will count with the collaboration of several Indian and Spanish institutions including: Cervantes Institute in New Delhi, Spanish Embassy in India, Indian Embassy in Spain and Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
