Dear Member, Reader
|
|
What better way to fulfil the Centre's lone objective to bring Indians and Europeans closer together again than to share common concerns of our day-to-day lives and evolve common answers?
Joining hands for a shared future is the stake in our budding yet forceful endeavours to bring leading denizens of our cities together, so that they can discuss their respective visions and needs across the table as old-time friends committed to the well-being of their own cities and our common planet.. |

This is what the first Forum of Goa achieved rather unexpectedly well. The same success was repeated with the first-ever mission of Indian cities to Europe that took place on 10-16 October
Led by the Centre and the Confederation of Indian Industry, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and the State of Goa could get a first-hand account of European achievements in four domains that had been identified as core priorities, namely heritage conservation, water supply and sanitation, solid waste treatment and urban transportation.
Lyon, Frankfurt, La Rochelle, Alstom and Veolia, all Partners in the first EuroIndia Forum, played marvellous hosts and demonstrated their best practices to their Indian visitors in an open and friendly manner, with desk presentations and on-site visits leading to a very fruitful exchange.
It is expected that such a visit will trigger further exchanges of experts both ways that will not only add European value to India's commendable urban renewal endeavours, in the wake of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, but also help Europeans understand the grassroot realities of emerging India and evolve a neighbourly rapport with her citizens.
In the process, we have started building a web of like-minded European and Indian cities with the same urge to co-operate that cannot but grow much larger, considering the potential, if we can sustain our budding momentum, while remaining focused and committed.
To ensure the latter, we strongly believe selectivity of players is a must, hence our invitation to cities who pionered the first Forum to join the Centre as Members With that firm grounding, only the sky will be the limit to our collective achievements!
This is the second issue of the EuroIndia Newsletter and I am pleased to report that a few of our members contributed their thoughts to it on a subject dear to their heart. We'd like to thank them wholeheartedly for the same, as it is one more step towards our goal of making "a newsletter for members by members". In the same spirit we invite all our members to contribute to the following issue due in two months.
We also extend a sincere invitation to all like-minded readers to apply for membership of the Centre, which will enable them also to make a decisive contribution to our collective endeavours in ways they deem fit.
Finally, it gives me great pleasure to salute the Euro-Indian spirit of our Co-President Colette Mathur, who has been instrumental in organizing at the India week in Geneva the exhibition of paintings that had been specially commissioned for the first Goa Forum with painters Luc Joly and Subodh Kerkar working in tandem over the Internet. This exhibition will now travel to other Indian Partner cities of the Goa Forum.
Thank you for your renewed support and your faith in our Euro-India destiny,
Yours sincerely,
Michel Sabatier
