  • 5-12 October: The detailed programme of the Indian Summit Mission to Geneva (Switzerland), Grenoble (France), Brussels (Belgium), Paris (France) and Eindhoven (Netherlands) is out. [click here]

  • 10 October: The Indian Summit Mission has been officially invited to attend the plenary inaugural function of Open Days by the Committee of the Regions of the European Union (CoR) in the hemicycle of the European Parliament.

  • 12 October: In the morning, the Minister for Urban Development, Government of India, Mr Kamal Nath, will address the 92nd plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, the first non-European to do so. Around 250 Heads of regions are expected, across all 27 States of Europe.

      He has accepted the invitation of the CoR President, Mrs. Bresso, to co-preside over the first-ever official interaction between Indian and European Mayors, over lunch.

      In the afternoon he will address a meeting specially organized by Business Europe for the Indian civic and corporate Summit delegation.

      Minister Kamal Nath will preside over its inaugural session, along with European, Belgian and Leuven authorities.

      He will lead an impressive Indian CII-EIC civic, corporate, academic and scientific delegation. As per the 2011 census, they represent at the highest administrative level 722 million Indians, roughly 2/3 rd of India's population. [click here]

      Each registered participant is offered to display his/her profile and expectations ahead of the Summit in the Members Area of the Centre's portal.

      All Cities that have either partnered a previous Forum/Summit or hosted a Mission have been invited to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of the EuroIndia Centre at Leuven.

      The Committee of the Regions of the European Union has formally granted its official patronage to the Summit and posted a special page on its portal to invite all its members across Europe to attend [click here]

      One new European civic institution has joined the CoR, European New Towns and Pilot Cities Platform, ANRU (France), FEMP (Spain), Staedtetag (Germany), UK Communities and Local Governments, as supporters:

      Path-breaking urban renovation programmes of the Government of India, such as the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) will serve as a backdrop to exchanges on the Mission and at the Leuven Summit.  [click here for detailed notes]

    • 13th October 2013: The Environmentally Sustainable City Award (ESCA): The Minister will also award the first ESCA to a European/Indian city and to its technical supporter. At the time of going to print, over 15 Indian cities have submitted their application.

      ESCA: Mr Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Founder Director, Centre for Environment Education has accepted to be the first Indian juror http://www.ceeindia.org

        The DG Energy of the European Commission has extended its official support to the ESCA and made an annoucement with all 2867 European Mayors and regional authorities having signed the Covenant of Mayors, whereby they voluntarily commit to increasing energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources on their territories and aim to meet and exceed the European Union 20% CO2 reduction objective by 2020.     • 26-28th of September 2011: The EAST (Euro- Asia Sustainable Towns) project. Project leader, European New Towns and Pilot Cities (ENTP) is organizing a visit of main project's partners to New Raipur. Project Partners will then call on the European Delegation in Delhi for debriefing. Board Member Professor Isabelle Milbert of I.U.E.D Geneva will represent the EuroIndia Centre.

     30 May-8 June: Co-President, Dr Anand and SG, Michel Sabatier toured Europe: Paris, Brussels, Leuven, Eindhoven, Madrid,    Valencia, London to canvass for support to the Summit and ESCA.

      July-August: Co-President, Dr Anand, and Secretary (India), Girish Bhagat, have extensively canvassed across 17 Indian States
       and called for their participation with their cities in the EuroIndia Summit and Mission, with the local support of Partner
       CII representatives:Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala,
       Pudducheri, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, resulting into an impressive list of confirmed delegates. [click here]

      10-11 August 2011: An International Conference on "Planning and Delivering Urban Infrastructure in Indian Cities" was organized by RICS in Delhi, with the support of the Centre. Secretary (India), Girish Bhagat, spoke on "An integrated urban approach for Indian cities: the roadmap for PPP and private investments". RICS in turn has offered to support the EuroIndia Summit.

      The first meeting of the newly formed Consultative Strategic Advisory Committee meeting is now slated to be held in Mumbai in the
       first fortnight of November, when Co-President Colette Mathur will join Co-President Dr Harjit S. Anand in India and call upon
       our India-based members and supporters to help chart our post-Summit strategy.

      Former AhmedabadCity Commissioner, Mr. IP Gautam, has been promoted to Secretary Urban Development of Govt. of
       Gujarat
    and new City Commissioner, Mr. Gurumahapatra, has taken over. Welcome to the latter and good luck to the former!

      Ahmedabad University has initiated a 'Centre for Heritage Management' offering several short and long term programmes     including a masters programme in 'Heritage Management', for the first time in India.They have already signed an MOU with the     University of Member City Valladolid last June. They have appointed Member Debashish Nayak as Director. He spent last few     months in Europe in several Universities to study their programmes, including RILCC of Member City Leuven University. This happy     development started when the EuroIndia Centre brokered a partnership between Ahmedabad and Valladolid on heritage     conservation at the 2nd EuroIndia Forum in 2008 at Goa.

      Board member, Emmanuel Chastang, has been appointed Regional Representative of the Centre for the Languedoc-Roussillon
        and the Provence-Côte d'Azur regions of France
